A man has been sentenced to serve one year in prison after he was found guilty of maiming his neighbour’s goat.
Peter Kigo had been charged with injuring the goat belonging to Mr Adan Sora on October 19, 2013 at Witemere in Nyeri County.
In her judgment, Resident Magistrate Catherine Mburu said the prosecution had provided sufficient evidence against the accused person.
Ms Mburu said the complainant’s son testified that he saw the accused pelting stones at the goat and rushed home to inform his father.
Mr Sora went to the scene and found the goat had an injury on its head.
The Magistrate noted that in his defence, the accused said that they had differed with the complainant after Mr Kigo’s children destroyed his motorcycle.
In his mitigation, Mr Kigo denied committing the offence and asked for leniency as he has seven children and he was the sole breadwinner.
“Since I was arrested, my children are living in the streets as they have nobody to look after them because my wife is sick,” he said.
