A pastor accused of killing his wife over alleged infidelity also shaved her and put the hair on a plate before he fled, a court heard Monday.
Mr Francis Mugetha was charged with killing his wife, Joyce Wairimu Njuguna, on August 1, at Gacororo Village in Murang’a County.
The 52-year-old father of three denied the charges.
Mr Mugetha of the Church of Holy Spirit located in Kariobangi, Nairobi, arrived in his rural home on Thursday and started accusing his wife of infidelity and selling their goats without his knowledge.
The couple quarrelled the whole night.
The wife’s body was found by their Class Six first born on bed with blood oozing from the forehead, the court was told.
Ms Wairimu’s hair was on a plate.
The mallet police say was used to kill her was also found at the scene.
The accused surrendered himself at Murang’a Police Station on Saturday morning.
Police said he first denied knowledge of what happened but later admitted committing the offence.
Prosecutor Paul Gathara asked the court to hold the accused in police custody for 10 days during which he would be examined by a doctor.
“Police are still investigating the case and some witnesses are yet to record their statements,” said Mr Gathara.
Senior resident magistrate Jackline Wekesa ordered that the accused be detained at Murang’a Police Station until August 14 when he is expected to take a plea.
