Kimaiyo, permits CORD rally

CORDInspector General of Police David Kimaiyo has now allowed CORD leaders to hold their weekend rally which he had cancelled on Tuesday.

The change of heart came after a meeting between Kimaiyo and CORD leaders led by Moses Wetangula, James Orengo and Farah Maalim early on Wednesday morning.

“The Inspector General of Police has assured us that they will provide us with adequate security after allowing us to hold our rally at Uhuru Park on Saturday,” ODM’s Deputy Communications Director Maseme Machuka told Capital FM News.

He added: “Our leaders assured him that the Saturday rally will not in any way interfere with the preparations of Madaraka Day celebrations.”

The rally is organised to welcome CORD leader Raila Odinga who has been away in the United States for over two months.

The leader of the ruling coalition in the National Assembly Aden Duale had also demanded an explanation from Kimaiyo on Tuesday following the indefinite ban on all political rallies.

Duale had said that even though Kimaiyo was within his rights to cancel political rallies, he owed the political leadership of the Jubilee coalition an explanation on the ban.

Duale had insisted that their planned weekend rally would go on as scheduled.
