The new Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening, has pledged to target aid at helping prevent future disasters in the Horn of Africa.
Hungry African children will receive a slice of nearly £17m of British taxpayers’ aid under the latest government scheme to relieve poverty.
The announcement came as Ms Greening visited one such project introduced by the Department for International Development, the Hunger Safety Net Programme.
The most needy receive the cash directly from the donors, without passing through the hands of the government.
