A principal and two watchmen of St Francis Girls secondary school have been arrested over the killing a Form Fours tudent on Tuesday night. The 19-year-old student of Karia Mixed Bay Secondary had gone to the girls school at night to visit his girlfriend. Kelvin Matiru Njuki was spotted by the school’s watchmen as he loitered in the compound.
The watchmen alerted the principal of a stranger in the school compound. Kirinyaga police boss Christine Mutua has said the suspects have been detained at Kerugoya police station. She once investigations are complete, the three will be charged with murder.
“The suspects are in our custody and will face murder charges once we finish our investigations into their involvement in the Tuesday night incident,” said Mutua.
The suspects are alleged to have beaten the teenager to death after he reportedly sneaked into one of the girl’s dormitories with his cousin. His accomplice fled and left Njuki behind as he was cornered inside the compound Unconfirmed reports indicated that the principal of the private school summoned police alleging that a male student from Karia Secondary had been lynched by members of the public within the school compound.
But police disputed the theory after it emerged that the boy was beaten to death by the suspects after his cousin narrated to the officers what had transpired during interrogation.
