Sauti Sol, Rufftone, Sarakasi for Uhuru swearing-in

SAUTI-SOL-CINEMASauti Sol, Rufftone, Ringtone and the Sarakasi dancers have been chosen to add to the entertainment at the Swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta next Tuesday.

The musicians and the dance troupe have been at the Kasarani Sports Complex today where full rehearsals are being carried out ahead of the historic inauguration of the son of Kenya’s founding president on April 9.

The mix of urban Kenyan, pop, gospel and contemporary will provide useful entertainment for Kenyans at the stadium and those watching from home, and provide a background for the dazzling marches by Kenya’s Armed Forces.

The Deputy President-elect William Ruto will also be sworn in at the Tuesday celebration, where the outgoing commander-in-chief President Mwai Kibaki will officially hand over the reins to Uhuru.

President Kibaki will hand over the Constitution and a sword to Uhuru as the two instruments of power, as the military conduct a 21-gun salute for the new commander-in-chief.

Yesterday, the Kenya Defence Forces guard of honour personnel conducted military drills, enacting every detail of the elaborate programme prepared by the Committee on Assumption of Office to the Presidency.

Construction around the venue, including setting up a podium for the VIPs, applying a fresh coat of paint and putting up a roof around where several invited guests would be seated, also took place alongside the military exercises.

Uhuru and his deputy, William Ruto, are expected to take two oaths each, the solemn affirmation of allegiance, and the solemn due execution of office, during the ceremony to be conducted by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.
