Police in Nairobi Tuesday recovered 18 assorted vehicles, believed to have been stolen, at a residence in Mountain View estate, Kangemi.
The officers were pursuing a saloon car that had been robbed off from a motorist at the city centre at the weekend when they stumbled upon the other 17 vehicles.
According to Dagoretti CID boss Henry Ondoro, they had been trailing the stolen car when they ended up at the compound belonging to one Dennis Mwangeka Mombo.
“We believe all these other vehicles were stolen or robbed off from genuine owners, but we are investigating the source,” said Ondoro.
Police were forced to jump over the perimeter wall of the heavily fortified compound to access where the vehicles were parked.
Ondoro said they had summoned the owner of the house to appear at Kabete police station on Tuesday 5pm.
Mombo however presented himself at the station at around 7.50pm where police were expected to interrogate him.
No arrests had been made by Tuesday night.
Nairobi is experiencing high cases of car-jacking and robbery with violence targeting saloon cars most of which are never recovered.
Police lack capacity to track such vehicles and have to rely on private companies.
