Police in Naivasha are holding two men arrested for circulating leaflets that the authorities claimed were inciting people to violence.
The two, who hail from Kinangop in Nyandarua County, were arrested in Naivasha town while distributing the leaflets to members of the public.
Confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok termed the arrests a breakthrough in leading officers to the source of the leaflets.
“The arrest of the two is a breakthrough (for) the police, who in the past have not arrested any suspects in relation to (the) circulation of leaflets in parts of the town,” he said.
Mr Kortok said police officers received a tip-off from members of the public that the two people had photocopied the leaflets in one of the cybercafes and were distributing them.
He said that upon searching the two, who are in their mid 60s, officers found them in possession of the leaflets. He added that the suspects would remain in custody pending further investigations and subsequent arraignment in court.
He appealed to residents to remain calm until investigations were over, adding that security personnel in the area were alert and could handle any form of insecurity.
The OCPD thanked members of the public for their cooperation and urged them to continue supporting the officers by giving the authorities any information that might compromise security.
