Another chapter in Kenya’s upcoming landmark presidential vote has unfolded after former justice, national cohesion and constitutional Affairs Minister Ms. Martha Karua declared her commitment to run against incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta.”On the political front it cannot be business as usual, I have no assigned mandate other than as Narc Kenya leader.” She continues ,” so I cannot be expected to be out as often.My future steps will reveal themselves but am firmly in the race”.
The 2017 ballot is viewed as crucial to return public confidence on Independent electrol and Boundaries commission (IEBC) led by Ahmed Issack Hassan after the last presidential vote, in 2013 , triggered crisis after the system failure which forced opposition led by former prime minister Raila Odinga to challenge uhuru’s victory in court.
Analyst have recently argued that how well a presidential candidate can handle economy and fight corruption can be crucial to a campaign stating the fall of former president Moi in 2002 who had brought economy to its knees.Jesse Kiragu a resident of Nairobi added ,” With Kenyan shillings now on a precipice, corruption at the highest height and other public events about to unfold, we are entering a new, more serious phase in politics that could easily scramble the pack and here Martha Karua prove herself the best candidate”.
The Iron lady of Kenya as commonly known for her non nonsense character has recently engaged herself in a deeper and more thoughtful national debate on how to tackle corruption, security, economic meltdown and others upheavals which has flustrated economic growth and development.
2017 Kenya’s general election will be second after 2010 promulgation of current constitution. Martha karua contested in the 2013 presidential election. She came in sixth with 43,881 votes.
