The county government of Machakos has launched a ‘Lapdesk’ project in all sub-counties to enable residents have easy access to internet.
Launching the project at the Machakos Youth Centre, Lilian Ng’ang’a,a close associate of Alfred Mutua, said the initiative has cost the county government a total of Sh20 million. Accompanied by the County Executive for Education, Youth and Social Services Ruth Mutua, and the County Chief Officer Sillah Collins, Ms Ng’ang’a said the laptops would be dispatched to all centres earmarked for the project.
She said the centres would be open for free to all students and those willing to be computer literate. She also received text books donation worth over Sh350,000 from Glaxo Smithkline International, to boost the centres’ libraries. “I call upon all residents to make good use of the facilities to improve their digital world capacity,” she said.
