Lupita Nyong’o hit the Oscar red carpet wearing a custom Prada light blue silk georgette gown with a deep V-neck top and low cut sides.
She completed her look with satin platform sandals and a matching clutch.
Her headband got Twitter abuzz. The gold and diamond headband, earrings and bracelet were all from Fred Leighton.
Talk show host Wendy Williams raved about it on Twitter, saying: “I want your headband and loved all your ear jazzmatazz. Beautiful dress. Good luck tonight. Xox”
Cheryl Tiegs wrote: “LOVE.”
And #Nairobiblue instantly began trending.
The actress, nominated in the supporting-actress category for her work in 12 Years a Slave, told E!’s Ryan Seacrest that she was “really excited” to be at the Oscars, even though it was not a childhood dream of hers.
“I didn’t grow up watching the Oscars. I really came to understand it was big deal in college. My dream was really to be an actor.”
Of her Prada gown, she said, “It’s a blue that reminds me of Nairobi, and so I wanted to have a little bit of home.”
Nyong’o turned 31 on Sunday. And how did she celebrate? “I went to the Independent Spirit Awards – and won!”
