Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has been held for questioning shortly after recording a statement with the county CID headquarters.
Mr Timamy was summoned to Lamu in Nairobi while in a meeting at the State House with President Uhuru Kenyatta to record the statement.
“He arrived at around 2pm at Manda Airstrip aboard Safari Link plane and went straight to the local CID offices to record the statement before crossing to Mokowe by boat to unknown destination,” said a police source on condition of anonymity.
A senior police officer privy to the report told Daily Nation Wednesday evening that Mr Timamy was transferred to Malindi and later Mombasa.
“They told him that he will be taken to Mokowe Police Station to record further statement but a pick-up KBU703N which transported him never stopped and instead drove speedily towards Lamu-Malindi Road,” said Mr Timamy’s relative on condition of anonymity.
A police officer who declined to be quoted added that Mr Timamy the only United Democratic Front (UDF) governor in the county was moved to Mombasa for further interrogation by detectives from the directorate of criminal investigations and special crime prevention unit.
