A three-alarm fire broke out in Spencer, Massachusetts, Sunday morning.

The blaze broke out on Pleasant View Road. Spencer Fire Lt. Joe Nanigan, who was off-duty at the time, drove by to check out what he thought was a brush fire, but saw smoke and flames coming from a home.

Nanigan called in crews and broke through a door to check if anyone was inside.

No one was home, but the house sustained substantial damage.

Crews from Leicester Fire also responded with two engines for mutual aid.

Officials say the fire does not appear to be suspicious. The cause remains under investigation.
