Kenya Heart Patients to Wait for Up to 5 Years for Surgery [VIDEO]

Patients requiring life-saving heart surgery are literary having to queue for their lives for as long as two years at the Kenyatta National Hospital. Citizen TV has learnt that a patient due for heart surgery today at the country’s main public referral hospital is likely to have the operation done sometimes in 2015 as the hospital struggles with large numbers of patients and limited facilities according to the head of Cardio Thoracic Department at KNH. So dire is the situation that desperate patients have given up on the wait. Sylvia Chebet spoke to one such patient, Esther Madoka, who is frantically trying to raise funds to seek treatment outside the country in a classic tale of affordable yet inaccessible treatment.
