Former North Mugirango-Borabu MP Godfrey Masanya Okeri is dead.
Masanya died at St Leonard Hospital in Kericho town on Sunday night after a short illness.
Masanya, 74, “was hypertensive and succumbed to the illness soon after admission to hospital”, said his nephew Jones Omwenga.
Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, who was in a group of Kisii leaders who went to view the body, sent his message of condolence.
“We have lost a mentor and dedicated servant of the people,” Momanyi told the Star on phone.
Hundreds of friends, relatives and political supporters on Monday flocked Masanya’s Nyaramba rural home in Borabu subcounty after receiving the news.
The former Ford People MP recently shelved plans to vie for any elective post in Borabu constituency.
“My work now is to patronise political aspirants in Borabu constituency, after those eying the seat picked me for that position, to ensure they conduct peaceful and development-oriented politics,” he had said.
Masanya was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Democratic Party.
He served as North Mugirango-Borabu MP between 2002 and 2007, on a Ford People ticket, before it was split into Borabu and North Mugirango constituencies in 2013.
