Press Release: In an appointment instrument dated 10th June 2013, Prof. Henk G. Sol by the virtue of the authority entrusted to him as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of UTAMU appointed Hon. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka the Chancellor of UTAMU for a period of four (4) years with effect from 10th June 2013.

The Chancellor of UTAMU shall:
Be the titular head of the University and as such shall preside at all ceremonies of the University and in the name of Uganda Technology and Management University, confer degrees and other academic titles and distinctions of Uganda Technology and Management University;
Appoint the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor(s) of Uganda Technology and Management University on terms and conditions set by the University Council; and
Promote the (image of the) University regionally and internationally.
Hon. Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka in his formal acceptance message to serve as Founding Chancellor of UTAMU, said: ‘I am well aware of the challenges that come with this position. I feel confident that we can make significant contribution to this University and I am grateful for the opportunity you have given me.’
UTAMU Chancellor Kalonzo Honoured
First his appointment as UTAMU chancellor was officially announced by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Venancious Baryamureeba.
The latest we have received from the university is that the former Kenya Vice President has received the title of Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Business Association.
This news was posted on his Facebook page.

Who is Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka?
He served as Vice President and Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Kenya during President Kibakiâ€™s second term for the period 2008-2013. Previously he held the following ministerial positions in the Republic of Kenya:
Minister for Environment and Natural Resources (2004-2005);
Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (2003-2004);
Minister for Tourism and Information (2001-2002);
Minister for Education and Human Resource Development (1998-2001);
Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Relations (1993-1998);
and Assistant Minister for Works, Housing and Physical Planning (1986-1988)
Hon. Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka also served as the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Kenya for the period 1988 – 1992. He also served as an elected Member of Parliament for Mwingi North Constituency, Kenya for the period 1986-2013.
Hon. Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka has also held several political party positions including Party Leader of Orange Democratic Movement-Kenya (ODM-K) Party (2007-2013) and Organizing Secretary, Kenya African National Union (KANU) for the period 1988-2002.
Hon Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka received the Elder of the Golden Heart, the second highest national award in Kenya in 1993 and he is a distinguished lawyer. Hon Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka is also a distinguished businessman and he is currently the Chairman Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation and Consulting Partner Musyoka, Wambua & Katiku Company Advocates.
Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka as part of his duties in the service of the Government of the Republic of Kenya addressed several assemblies/ summits/ conferences including those of the United Nations (UN). For instance from 1993 to 1997, he addressed the 48th, 49th, 50th, and 52nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly. In 2005 he was Elected President of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
Hon Dr. Kalonzo holds a Doctorate of Letters (Honaris Causa), Kenyatta University (2009); Doctorate of Divinity, Latin University of Theology (2008); Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management, Mediterranean Institute of Management, Nicosia, Cyprus (1979); Post- Graduate Diploma in Law, Kenya School of Law (1978); and Bachelors of Law (LLB.Honours), University of Nairobi (1977) among other qualifications.
Hon. Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka is a Rotarian, God fearing born again Christian.
UTAMU Policy on the Appointment of a Chancellor
In arriving at the most suitable Founding Chancellor for UTAMU, the Board of Trustees was guided by the UTAMU Chancellor Appointment Policy, which stipulates that UTAMU needs a Chancellor:
That commands respect and recognition among the national and international academic communities;
That is ambitious, inspirational, and optimistic;
With unquestioned integrity as a sine qua non;
Who is skilled in diplomacy and multi-tasking and who can communicate the vision of the university and promote it in all ceremonies of the University and at other ceremonies and functions where the Chancellor shall be present;
Who is a charismatic communicator that can actively engage with any audience;
With outstanding communications skills and ability to advocate appropriately and successfully in both private and public settings;
With excellent personal judgement, decisiveness, courage of convictions, substantial creativity and a personal and professional outlook that includes a sense of humor;
Who possess considerable interpersonal skills as evidenced by a track record as a relationship-builder both internally and externally;
Who understands and is passionate about the Universityâ€™s core values; and
With personal connection to, and profound respect for the academic staff and their partnership with students in the academic and scholarly process.
