Janet Ciru had been a full-time vocalist and performing for slightly more than 10 years. She had a long repertoire and a wide vocal range.
She’s worked with some of the greats like, Eric Wainaina, Asali, Lady Jaydee, Konshens (Jamaica), Heart n Soul Band, Gravitti Band, Kidum and Boda Boda Band, Calabash Band, among others. She battled a mental disorder for years and was vocal in campaigning for support of mental illness in patients.
On February 23, she was experiencing severe attacks that made it difficult for her to breath, stand or walk. They resembled the attacks she got with her struggles with a mental health condition. On Monday evening, she was rushed to the hospital.
The doctors did the best they could but on Tuesday, February 24, at 2:30pm, she had another nasty attack and breathed her last. The cause of death was cardiac arrest. Her husband posted this on his Facebook page: “I loved her more than anything else on Earth.
I believe I’ll soon meet her again in heaven. Thanks all for your support.” The family has received massive support from everyone, whose life was touched by Ciru. RIP. You will be missed.
