Coast politician Ramadhan Kajembe has quit ODM.
The former Changamwe MP, who was ODM deputy chairman before the botched February 28 elections in Kasarani last year, said he was only a figurehead.
“There is no need to stay in a party that does not embrace democracy,” he told the Star on the phone yesterday.
“The party has made some of us look corrupt in the eyes of honest and peace-loving Kenyans. It is kind of a party that does not tolerate divergent opinions.”
Kajembe did not, however, announce which party he has joined, saying “Coast region as a whole is not going to be the same again”.
Kajembe said party leader Raila Odinga is aware of his decision.
Kajembe vied for Mombasa senator in the March 4, 2013, general election, but lost to Wiper’s Omar Hassan.
