The driver of the vehicle, 37-year-old Dorcas N. Kiruki, died from the crash.
One person was killed about 7:30 a.m. Thursday on the St. Joseph Valley Parkway in an accident between a semi-truck and a van, according to St. Joseph County Police dispatch.
Dorcas N. Kiruki, 37, of Mishawaka was identified by the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team just before 5 p.m. Thursday.
Kiruki appeared to have left the road between the Indiana 23 and Mayflower Road exits and was struck by a semi when she attempted to reenter the lane. The semi was driven by a 58-year-old from Kentucky, who was uninjured.
Neither alcohol nor speed appears to be a factor in the accident, according to FACT. The investigation remains ongoing and no criminal charges have been filed. The name of the semi driver will not be released.
As a result, police said a portion of the bypass was closed to traffic from Indiana 23 to Mayflower Road for nearly three hours.

The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) has positively identified the victim of the fatal crash that occurred earlier this morning on the Bypass between the SR 23 and Mayflower exits, and the family has been notified. The victim has been positively identified as Dorcas N. Kiruki, 37, of Mishawaka.
Dispatch was notified a little after 7:30 a.m. this morning regarding a vehicle and semi-truck accident on the Bypass traveling westbound between the SR23 and Mayflower exits. The vehicle driven by Ms. Kiruki appeared to have left the road, and then attempted to re-enter the road, at which time the vehicle struck a guardrail and then was hit by the semi-truck. The semi-truck was being driven by a 58-year old truck driver from Kentucky, who was uninjured, and there were no other passengers in either vehicle.
Toxicology testing was conducted, but neither alcohol nor speed appears to have been a factor. As this investigation remains ongoing and no criminal charges have been filed, we will not release the name of the 58-year-old driver of the vehicle at this time.
